Family photos - what your kids will fight over when you're gone! Even if you think your kids aren't growing and changing, just look back at your last photo session and be amazed.

Both for current enjoyment and posterity, it's important to have a historical pictorial record of your family. Pictures of my nieces in nephews on my desk, tables and walls of my home bring me a smile every day.

I know organizing for family photos is a lot of work. But it's SO worth it! You will treasure those picture and they will become even more valuable to you as the years go by.

A lifestyle portrait session is great for the whole family as there is time for a variety of combinations of people and backgrounds. If you simply want to update one child's pictures and you want to do it often and economically, a mini session is a great choice.

Once you schedule a shoot, the first question is always, what to wear?? I'd suggest choosing one favorite outfit (can be for any family member) and building the rest around it so everyone coordinates. Matching not necessary. Here are some tips for coordinating family outfits. Also, do a little search on pinterest for family photo shoot outfits for lots of ideas.

As for location, there are so many options in DC, northern Virginia and Maryland. I'm happy to make suggestions based on the ages of the kid(s), the season and your preferences. I know all the best places for great lighting and backgrounds to really showcase your family.

Once you have your gallery of proof images, I'm happy to help you decide how to display your new art in your home. There are lots of options for prints and products. If you're on the fence about digital negatives or prints, here are my thoughts on which is the better buy.

Many of my clients are choosing albums as a way to enjoy the most images. An album is also the best way to ensure the pictures are preserved for generations to come.

So, make the commitment to having your family professionally photographed on a regular basis, you'll be so glad you did!
